Board members are responsible for accomplishing our mission: supporting the development of young professionals to strengthen their role in a viable, inclusive, and collaborative nonprofit sector.
Ideal board candidates have:
- A commitment to social justice and an understanding of the importance of equipping a deep, diverse bench of nonprofit leaders with the skills and networks they’ll need to make an impact
- The ability to balance idea generation with execution
- Demonstrated interest in the areas noted in the job description (gained via formal or informal experience)
- Enthusiasm for working with a nimble, startup-esque organization that has a developing infrastructure

Come to an event! Join us when you can and keep track of events you’ve missed out on via our website and social media pages listed below. Also, bring a friend or two – the more the merrier!
What is the age range for this group?
While most of our members are in their 20s and 30s, we welcome anyone who wants to join YNPN Portland. Events and programming are geared towards some of the challenges young professionals face in the nonprofit sector, but may also be helpful to individuals of any age who are joining the nonprofit world after working in the for-profit or public sectors. Bottom line: if you think you can learn and contribute, please join us!
I don’t work at a nonprofit, can I still come?
Yes! We welcome anyone with an interest in the nonprofit sector, including public and private sector employees, students, nonprofit volunteers and those seeking work in the nonprofit sector.
I have been to a few events and I am interested in getting more involved – is that possible?
Yes again! YNPN Portland has an active Board of Directors and Sub-Committees working on all aspects of the group’s programming, marketing, membership outreach, partnership development and sustainability. While Board elections only occur every 6 months, you are welcome to reach out to one of our committees to get involved. We would love to hear from you to find the right fit for you!

YNPN Portland is always looking for new, dedicated volunteers to join one of our two committees (see descriptions below). As an all-volunteer organization, we need new talent to help further our mission of engaging young nonprofit professionals around personal and professional development.
We’re looking for people who want to share and strengthen their skills in marketing or event planning, while making new friends and building new connections with fellow professionals! If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you!
The Marketing Committee is responsible for all marketing and publicity of YNPN Portland. Volunteers on this committee manage the YNPN Portland brand and related communications, including website, eNews, social media platforms, promotional materials, and PR & Media relationships. The team’s primary aim is to market YNPN Portland news and events for the overall expansion and success of the group through a multi-faceted communications plan. Volunteers on this committee share and strengthen their writing, editing, design, and technology talents, as well as engaging in creative brainstorming for long-term planning.
The Programming Committee is responsible for creating and planning YNPN Portland’s professional development events. Volunteers on this committee brainstorm and develop engaging event ideas, seek community partners and collaborations for speakers, event locations and food, communicate with the marketing committee to promote events, and see our events through to execution. Volunteers are detail oriented, dedicated, driven, creative, connected and learn what it takes to run successful events.
